Sedona ranks as second-best travel destination in U.S.

TripAdvisor recently ranked Sedona and Phoenix as the second- and fourth-best travel destinations in the U.S., respectively. In fact, Sedona even ranked number six on their global list. This stems from the city’s unparalleled combination of adventure and leisure.

According to the Sedona Chamber of Commerce, the city attracts three million out-of-state visitors annually. Many in-state and out-of-state visitors associate Sedona with hiking, climbing, and sightseeing, but the city also complements these activities with resorts and leisure activities.

Sedona Chamber of Commerce communications director Kegn Moorcroft highlights the myriad outdoor excursions the city offers. “Surrounded by 1.8 million acres of national forest land, visitors have instant access to recreational activities,” Moorcroft explains. “Trails for hiking and biking, along with bouncy jeep tracks, weave among the bristling forest of pinnacles, spires, buttes and domes. Yet, you’re never far from the indulgences of town.”

Further, she notes that Sedona is “equal parts rugged, equal parts resort.” Not only does the city of red-rock offer outdoor adventures, but it also provides activities for people who want a more relaxing trip. The city offers more than 40 art galleries, spas, vineyard tours, wine-tasting rooms, and more. In fact, she notes that Sedona has become increasingly popular among wine enthusiasts over the years.

Moorcroft points out that the most popular parts of Sedona’s land have actually started to cripple due to the immense amount of foot traffic. Consequently, the Chamber created the Sedona Secret 7, which highlights the hidden gems of Sedona. With this addition, visitors can experience even more of what the city has to offer.

Sedona’s strong tourism emphasis also helps to bolster their economy. According to the Sedona Chamber, two-thirds of the city’s sales tax revenue comes from out-of-city visitors. These taxes directly contribute to the development of public amenities like parks and streets; in fact, last year, $13.5 million in taxes were allocated to city projects. Moreover, the tourism industry supports over 10,000 jobs and produces $600 million in economic impact annually.

Arizona has proven itself to be one of the premier tourism destinations in the nation, and Sedona plays a major role in that. Whether vacationers are looking for adventure or leisure, the city is able to accommodate. Indeed, as more people visit Sedona, the city will be able to increase maintenance and development.

As Sedona’s fan following grows, it will not be surprising if the city grabs the number one spot on TripAdvisor’s tourist destinations list next year.
