Cyber protection leader Acronis investing in new R&D office in Tempe

Software company Acronis announced it is opening its new office in Tempe Monday.

As a global leader in cyber protection, Acronis has chosen Arizona to be home to a cutting-edge research and development office that will serve as the company’s largest and fastest-growing data center operations space.

With the new office, Acronis will invest $50 million in research and development efforts over the next three years, creating more than 150 jobs for “talent recruited locally in Arizona.”

[Tempe’s] a great place,” said Acronis CEO and Founder Serguei Beloussov. “It is a place where we can find very, very good talent, nevertheless it’s still affordable for our employees to live not far from the office, to have good housing, to have good schooling… I don’t see [a] reason why not [to open an office] here.”

Beloussov added that Tempe is ideal because of its proximity to local universities as well as Arizona being “North America’s hub for data center operations and professional services,” and the investment in the state is the company’s key to future research and development.

We’re really excited to have you here as part of the Tempe community,” Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell said. “We are a perfect fit for Acronis in terms of talent because we have young, educated talent. Just the type of employees [they will] be looking for to fill those positions.”

According to the company, it is revolutionizing the industry through its “cyber protection” category that includes a host of solutions that reflect a merging of data protection and cybersecurity.

The new office will be a hub to fuel advances in blockchain, machine learning and artificial intelligence-based cyber protection as well as unique consulting services for customer development and deployment of security and AI solutions.

“All of it is really about making sure that nothing gets lost; everything is accessible at any point of time; you know who accesses [your data] and what they do with it; you know nothing was modified with your infrastructure; you can trust your data… and finally you can make sure that the bad guys do not affect it,” Beloussov said.

The company will use also use the office to support the creation of software development kits for the Acronis Cyber Platform that provides third-party vendors an easy way to customize, extend and integrate Acronis technology with their solutions.

The company expects the work to build a stronger partnership with North American cloud providers, software vendors, telecoms and managed service providers.

“Acronis’s choice to locate a state-of-the-art research and development center and create hundreds of high-quality jobs in Arizona emphasizes our state’s position as a leader in technology and innovation,” Governor Doug Ducey (R-AZ) said. “Acronis could have located this operation anywhere in the world, and we’re proud they chose Arizona.”

Acronis was founded in 2003 in Singapore and has offered innovative solutions based on providing the “Five Sectors of Cyber Protection” — safety, accessibility, privacy, authenticity and security (SAPAS) — to personal users, businesses and service providers. It has offices in 17 countries.

We are rapidly growing,” Beloussov said. “Cyber protection is something that is extremely universal. An [expert] in cyber protection is needed when you build smart cities, smart nations… Everywhere in the world we’re surrounded with digits, digits are used by applications, applications run on systems, our world actually becoming digital without cyber protection is impossible.”
