Never forget

Today marks the 17th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Americans join together in remembering the lives lost and the bravery shown by the first responders.

Governor Doug Ducey released the following statement:

“Today, America comes together in solemn remembrance of the September 11,2001 terrorist attacks,” said Governor Ducey.

“On that day, the world watched as our country lost nearly 3,000 lives in the greatest act of violence and terrorism ever perpetrated on American soil.

“Seventeen years removed, images and memories of the attacks are still fresh in our minds.

“As we mourn every life lost and recall the evil of that day, we also remember the extraordinary patriotism, bravery and sacrifice of so many police officers, firefighters, first responders and good Samaritans who ran toward danger and gave their lives to save others.

“Today, Arizona’s sincerest prayers and thoughts go out to all those who lost a loved one on 9/11, to the families of those who have fallen in defense of this great nation, and to everyone who continues to serve our fellow Americans on the front lines — at home and abroad.

“As we reflect on September 11, 2001, let us stand firm in our nation’s ideals and ensure that we never forget the lessons of that day.

“And may that day serve as a reminder to the world that the resolve of the American people will never be broken.”

The governor has ordered the flags at all state office building be lowered to half-staff.

Several cities across the Valley are hosting memorial services, including a candlelight vigil this evening at Tempe Town Lake.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center, home of the Bush Institute and the Bush Presidential Library tweeted this morning a picture of former President George W. Bush with the caption, “’This is a day I will certainly never forget. This morning we pause to say a prayer for the lives lost’ -President George W. Bush.”
