Full speed ahead for Arizona’s first “car country club”

Apex Motor Club is developing the state’s first “car country club,” which will feature a racetrack, clubhouse, and personal garages for all members. The development exemplifies the rapidly growing popularity of cars and racing in Arizona.

The club will cover 280 acres of land in the city of Maricopa near Arizona State Highway 238. Apex’s location provides convenience for members across the Valley, as it is equidistant from Sky Harbor Airport, Downtown Phoenix, and Scottsdale, with just a 30- to 35-minute drive. Phase I of the track’s construction will finish in February, where members will be able to race on a 2.27-mile track.

In addition to the track, the first phase of construction will also consist of 48 “car condominiums” – specialized, 1,250-square foot garages – and a multipurpose building. Phases II and III will provide even more amenities, including more garages, a clubhouse, a tune shop, and an additional 2.15-mile track.

Apex Vice President Matt Williams explains that the club’s location and services set it apart from other automobile country clubs around the nation. “Its proximity to the city is one of the best perks — the commute is short, and for guys that are typically doing this as an activity, most race tracks are much farther away,” Williams said. “The proximity will allow them to treat this like a round of golf – they can come in in the morning and then be back at home or in the office in the afternoon.”

Williams points out that the unparalleled amenities of the club are even attracting some out-of-state visitors, as Apex has some members with their second or third homes in Arizona. Hence, the club is providing out-of-state residents with more reasons to venture to the state. He expresses other reasons why Phoenix is attracting both out-of-state visitors and in-state residents.

“Number one, it’s a car town. There are car functions almost every weekend in this town.” Williams states. “One of the longest running car shows happens every Saturday at the Scottsdale Pavilion, you have Barrett-Jackson, and you have two races every year at ISM Raceway. So the interest for cars and racing is big in Arizona.”

In addition to having individual memberships ranging between $18,000 and $75,000, Apex Motor Club also offers corporate memberships, which provides access for five employees and six guests per month. More information about memberships can be found on their website.

With the recent remodeling of ISM Raceway, the construction of Apex, and other longstanding automobile events, Arizona is becoming a national for hub for car collectors and drivers.
