All aboard! American Airlines adds nonstop flight from Phoenix to London

Phoenix is quickly becoming a hub for international travelers as American Airlines announced this morning a new daily nonstop flight from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to London Heathrow Airport. This will be American’s first trans-Atlantic flight from Phoenix, slated to begin March 31, 2019. Passengers will travel in a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

“Our trans-Atlantic partnership with British Airways continues to strengthen and provide new possibilities for both carriers and customers throughout Europe and North America,” said Vasu Raja, American’s Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. “Our extensive networks on each side of the Atlantic are complementary and enable further long-haul expansion from both points of sale.”

According to American Airlines, the new flight will provide more than 120 connections from London Heathrow with British Airways, Iberia and Finnair and from Phoenix Sky Harbor to more than 80 onward destinations on American throughout North America.

“Today’s announcement is a reflection of the strength of the Phoenix economy, and one that only promises to make it stronger,” said Phoenix Mayor Thelda Williams. “This has been many years in the making, and I want to thank the oneworld alliance, American Airlines and the City of Phoenix team for working together to turn it into a reality.”

The new flight will have plenty of amenities to ensure comfort for those aboard, including Bose noise-canceling headphones, celebrity chef-inspired menus and bedding designed by Casper for customers in Flagship Business.  Premium Economy features leather seats with 38 inches of pitch, noise-reducing headphones, an enhanced food and beverage selection, and personal amenity kits. High-speed international Wi-Fi and personal inflight entertainment screens are available for every customer on board.

Phoenix Sky Harbor has focused on increasing international service, including Condor Airlines nonstop flight to Frankfurt, Germany in May and adding new Montreal service earlier this year.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport offers nonstop service to 22 international destinations, and according to the airport, these flights bring in approximately $3 billion each year.
